A look at some central midfield targets, but we aren't the only club after these guys.

Valerio Pennicino

Nemanja Matic-Benfica

At 25, Matic could be brought in as competition for Lucas, and he's got a decent track record on his CV to warrant a bid.

Matic used to be on the books at Chelsea before making a switch to Benfica in 2011 in the deal for David Luiz, having made 2 appearances for the London club.

Since his move, he's established as a great up and coming central midfielder, and Chelsea are showing an apparent interest in regaining his services, but reports from several papers claim that we're leading the chase, which includes us, the aforementioned Chelsea, and Real Madrid, among others.

Making 51 appearances for Benfica, he was named 2013's Portuguese Premiera Liga player of the year.

Eddy Onazi-Lazio

Making a name for himself at the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2009 as a 16 year old, Onazi joined Lazio in 2011, after him and a teammate Sani Emanuel both had trials throughout Italy.

He made his step up to the senior side in 2012, after impressing in Lazio's reserves and Youth levels.

After impressive performances for club and country over the past year, speculation has arisen over a move for Onazi, with TalkSport quoting the player as saying... "I would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League. Liverpool? They are a huge team and are attractive to any footballer. I could see myself playing for them."

Despite this, the player denies saying the quote. However, it's Football, anything can happen.
