STARTERS:
Jones - 6 - Probably could have done a bit better on the goal, but it was a well struck ball. Other than that, he didn't have a whole lot to do.
Enrique - 6 - A bit of an up and down game for him. He had moments where he got forward and provided width quite well, and others where he played himself into a box and left Liverpool vulnerable at the back. He does create a decent number of chances, perhaps he might be best played at left mid occasionally. Nice ball for Suarez's goal.
Skrtel - 7 - Commanding in the box. Held the line well and really limited Newcastle to a handful of actual chances. Solid performance.
Agger - 7 - See Skrtel.
Wisdom - 7 - Continues to impress, especially if you take into account his age. Was he at fault for the goal? Eh, maybe he could have closed down Cabaye, but overall he wasn't left wanting in defense while still supporting the attack. He and Skrtel seemed to have a good understanding of switching to cover each other when needed.
Allen - 6 - A number of untimely misplaced passes. Perhaps that is unfair as nearly every misplaced pass from his position will result in a counter, but it was uncharacteristic. Not his usual self.
Gerrard - 7 - For me he was in and out of the game. However, he did set up a few decent chances. Corner kicks were atrocious this game though. I can't remember how many he took, but nearly every single corner was awful.
Sterling - 7 - He constantly got forward and was a pain in the Newcastle defense. Perhaps he could have done a bit better when he was played in by Suarez, but that was a fine sliding block by Taylor. Still looks the part, but I worry about him tiring as the season drags on.
Suso - 7 - Tricky little guy made a number of nice runs into the box from the wing. Liverpool's problem again as it was last year, is getting numbers in the box. It is absolutely infuriating to see some of these runs amount to nothing because no one is there to pick up the rebound or the pass across the face of goal. For this I miss Dirk.
Sahin - 6 - A couple of really rash challenges, he was lucky not to be booked (ref had a decent game by the way...aside from what should have been a Suarez penalty). He started well and put himself in great positions in Liverpool's opening 15 minute flurry, but then quickly became anonymous. Finishing left much to be desired as well.
Suarez - 9 - Just an unbelievable goal. How he can score those and miss all the sitters is beyond me. Either way, the first touch was just mouthwatering and somehow he bested that with one of the best touches I have ever seen in a game to round Krul. Created a number of chances as well for others even though they weren't finished. He really is unplayable. Imagine if he had a partner like Robbie Fowler to finish all the opportunities. Probably should have also been awarded a penalty early on.
SUBS:
Shelvey - 6 - I wanted to give him a 5 for wasting a couple of good chances and playing a stupid long cross to switch fields at the end. However, I'm really not in the mood to argue it with people so he gets a 6.
Downing - 6 - Not bad and put in couple decent crosses. Story of his Liverpool career. There is a tweet going around that points out the fact that Stewart Downing is an anagram for "twat on reds wing". Just thought I would share.
