I just wrote this wrap. I know I did. Dominate for long stretches, spurn chances, a couple ridiculous saves from some guy you could swear was changing your tires at Jiffy Lube just last week. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. It's a familiar refrain, and one that is driving all of us to the voices in our head and possibly to acts we'll very much regret.
What jumps out at me is that of the 25 shots Liverpool had, only seven were on target. That can't be enough. The saves that makes us talk to ourselves that Bunn had to make were restricted to the last quarter of the game. I can't help but feel that a truly class team would have made them required far earlier, that a keeper would have to make 10-12 saves in order to keep a team out instead of the 4-6 that Liverpool only demand.
Is it the chances aren't clear enough? At times. Is it the finishing? That as well. But Liverpool aren't blessed with great finishers, anywhere. So maybe the chances just have to be that much easier. Then again, they've biffed 80% of their penalties this year, so do with that what you will.
I don't have any answers, and I don't think anyone else does either.
Bullets:
-The team sure looked smoother when Steven Gerrard came on, but I can't sit here and say I'm comfortable with what it says that the team is so dependent on an over-30 midfielder who's basically made of fairy dust and dreams right now, no matter how classy and accomplished he's been.
-Charlie Adam may get a lot of shit for the own goal, and he didn't have a very good match, but that deflection really could have gone anywhere. He did well to beat his man to the near post, and it's just bad luck.
-It has to be so tough on Andy Carroll. Carrying that price tag, and he only gets a start once a month. Then when he doesn't score people are mauling each other to call him a waste of money. He doesn't get a chance to find his feet or build a rhythm or put up the radar. And even when he does everything right, some jackass pulls a stop out of his ass. I hope this run of games that Carroll is assuredly going to get is good for him and the Reds.
-I understand why Downing and Maxi were played on their off-wings. But in a match where you're struggling to score, don't you try switching them at least once?
-Did Jordan Henderson play?
-Um, Mr. Enrique? The goal is down here.
-At least Chelsea could only draw.
-Suarez still looks like he could use a rest, even before the appeal is even lodged.
-I'm now going to set myself on fire.
