Swansea v Liverpool Player Ratings

New, 1 comment

We are worse at sealing the deal than a 30 year old Star Trek fan that still lives with his mom. Yet again, this was more dropped points at home against lesser opposition (all due respect to Swansea). Swansea probably deserved a point, they did play good entertaining football and it was nice to see a team go for it and not pack it in. However, it is getting ridiculous how keepers always seem to have fantastic games against us, or at least it feels that way. I guess Never Leave College's assessment about Vorm was spot on. That's all I have to say, I am off to drown my sorrows in some homebrew. Here are the ratings:

STARTERS:

Reina - 8 - Had to be on his toes and made some fantastic saves, even if one was because of his own mistake. Great game for him.

Enrique - 7 - Very good, and provided a ton of width. Still got back and really only got caught out when the whole team was pressing forward in the latter stages of the game. He is a fantastic signing.

Agger - 6 - An okay game for him. One silly challenge, but other than that he was good. I wish he had actually taken more of the space that Swansea were giving him when he was in possession.

Skrtel - 6 - Sometimes struggled with the Swansea runs (specifically a run during the shot that was blasted over the net after a lay off). Overall though it was neither good nor bad.

Johnson - 7 - Did well to support the attack and never got caught out. I don't know how he didn't score the winner at the end. Great save by Michel Vorm.

Henderson - 4 - Very poor and wasteful with possession.

Adam - 5 - Made 3 fantastic passes to split the Swansea defense. Other than that he was very bad. He needed to be playing much more advanced to get on the end of Carroll's great knockdowns. He and Lucas did not really control the center of the pitch.

Lucas - 5 - Struggled to get a hold of the wide open game. It was really just a sloppy display in the center of the pitch by both sides.

Downing - 6 - Bright start, but faded in the second half. He did well with Enrique, but still not quite good enough. He is in a bit of a slump right now.

Suarez - 6 - Needs to switch back to the orange boots. While he still was very good and dangerous, his control and touch was a bit off. He still created a number of chances and was the player who looked most likely to finally get one.

Carroll - 6 - Very unlucky to hit the woodwork. If he had scored, it would have been an 8. I thought his movement was much improved and he was fantastic at winning a lot of knockdowns inside the box. Unfortunately no one was there to get them. This is where I wish we hadn't sold Meireles (or Stevie wasn't made of wet cardboard). This would have been a great game to have him lashing at all of those. Overall he paired much better with Suarez overall although there is still a long way to go.

SUBS:

Kuyt - 6 - I thought he had it, but he was barely off (if the ball did indeed come off Agger). Worked hard, but there was little to show for it.

Bellamy - 6 - Didn't do anything wrong, didn't light it up either. To be fair, he didn't have a ton of time and should probably just get an 'N/A'.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I don't know how this happened, but it did. What should have been an easy run of points has turned into a nightmare. I'll repeat it again though, why the hell do these keepers come to Anfield and look like superstars? Either way, we have more posts than goals over this run, that should make you want to vomit. I would have preferred a switch to a 3-5-2 once Kenny realized that Carroll was winning everything sent his way. This would have allowed Liverpool to gain control of a crazy midfield and I don't think that the defense would have been too stretched if this had happened. I hate going into an international break like this.
