Simon Mignolet has been on record recently, acknowledging his displeasure over his position on the Belgian depth chart. Which has ignited a war of words against the player who is ahead of him at Goal. Thibaut Courtois fired back against his countrymen's comments, stating that he should be awarded with the respect a player who is performing at an elite level deserves. After the last week of football it is safe to say that Courtois has a point. Mignolet has allowed 5 goals in 2 games where as Thibaut as allowed nil. To further exacerbate the issue Atletico's net-minder has put on an amazing performance Wednesday in San Siro during the Champions League clash against AC Milan. It was a clinical display , continuously robbing the attack of Milan. A diving deflection that parried a Kaka cracker was one of the highlights of the match. After that, normally automatic chance, Courtois destroyed the Milan momentum by laying out and with one hand negating a Andrea Poli header. Most other Goal Keepers might have surrendered the points, and Madrid could be fighting to keep their UCL hopes alive in the current fixture. Mignolet is 4 years Courtois' elder so there is a reason for him to be outspoken about the issue, and in his Simon's defense he did nothing wrong to lose the position. There isn't really much that separates the two of their skill levels, but when it comes to the World Cup you have to ride the hottest hand in situations like these. Thibaut is without a doubt streaking and hasn't let off the gas pedal, the only way I see Simon Mignolet overtaking him is an unforseen injury. Otherwise Mignolet should keep true to his form and not regress to aggitation. Belgium is looking good coming into the tournament and a lot of eyes will be focused on this position battle .
