Another Match Added To Full Plate For Liverpool

Oops, we did it again. - Chris Brunskill

Liverpool self-destruct moments before a final whistle could grant Joe Cole the glory.

The matches keep on coming as we hit the vital stretch of the season, and in no time at all we'll be battling Swansea. When Joe Cole scored his goal to make it 2-1, it looked as if a break from an exhausting stretch of work was imminent. Let me repeat that: Joe Cole actually scored a goal. And he did it neatly with his notoriously weak left foot.

But unfortunately, in the blink of an eye, everything was undone. And I mean that literally. My TV remote fell on the floor as the ball harmlessly lay in the midfield, and by the time I returned to my chair from picking it up there was a shirtless player from the opposing team going wild in celebration. Good for him and Young Boys as a team though for showing resilience and not backing down from a challenge.

Of course, questions have to be asked about how that shot found its way into the net and why Suarez tried to get cheeky with a golden opportunity seconds before. But this post is less about the match we all just watched and more about what it means for the matches in the future, because this draw means the next one counts. Gerrard, Suarez, and Sterling came on as substitutes which leaves them that much more tired for this weekends match. Will Rodgers roll the dice and rest anybody soon in the league? I'd say that Suarez has to start, but in the midfield there are more options. While Gerrard was pretty strong today in his time on the pitch, I could see him missing out of a starting role in favor of Henderson. For me, Henderson isn't optimal in a defensive midfield position, but against Swansea I believe he can get the job done. For England's national team Henderson has frequently been placed in that role and from what I've seen, performed rather well. I also think that based on pure creativity, Henderson isn't a ridiculous drop off from the captain. That said, a center midfield controlled by Henderson and Allen is not by any means a good security system for a defense that seems to be leaking goals at the most inopportune times.

We'll just have to wait and see what Rodgers comes up with Sunday, but there's a good chance he doesn't hold back any of his aces against Swansea and puts off the exhaustion problem to an equally important midweek match against Spurs. This is where the kitchen really starts heating up. Speaking of kitchens, I've got to go eat Thanksgiving dinner with my family. I'll eat away the memories of today.
